As a result, my email inbox was filled with comments. Some good, some bad. But there were a ton of people obviously interested in the show. So for my critics and fans out there, here's the deal... A couple of months ago I was contacted by a colleague at CNN who had access to Jon Mark Karr. Yes, that Jon Mark Karr. The admitted killer of Jon Benet Ramsey. My colleague said that Karr was interested in talking about the case, and clearing up some errors and misconceptions about the story. Karr was hesitant about going public and wanted to find an outlet that would allow him to state his case. After weeks of conversations back and forth, I finally got Karr to agree to appear on my show. Not just to appear, but to be in studio. For two hours. Taking calls from listeners. Read that again. Live, in studio AND taking calls from listeners. This would allow me and my listeners unprecedented access to this, well, very odd individual. It took several long phone conversations with Karr to convince him of this set up. In return, I agreed not to "ambush" him on the air. And frankly, I had no intention of ambushing him. I had seen two TV interviews that Karr had done, and I got nothing from them. In both cases the interviewer attacked Karr, immediately putting him on the defensive. The end result? The viewers learned nothing from the interviews. They proved to be pointless and uninteresting. I decided to take a different approach with my show. I decided to kill him with kindness. I was his best friend. I was his confidant. I was his sympathetic ear. And you know what? It worked. For two hours Karr opened up like never before. We learned who he was, where he came from and what made him tick. For two hours Karr let us into his "world". And you know what, it was damn interesting radio. He actually cried on the air. Think what you will of him as a person, he has been through an ordeal that very few individuals ever will. The amount of media exposure he received was massive. I wanted to know what that experience was like. I didn't care if he killed Jon Benet or not. To me that wasn't the hook of this story. The man himself was. I make no apologies for interviewing him. I think it was worth it. Talk radio is about entertaining and informing. I think I did both. For those that disagree...I appreciate you listening to my show...for TWO full hours. 19th Annual Arum and Clark Expedition Atlanta Dining Award Winners: -Best Fine Dining:McKendrick's Steakhouse -Best Family Dining:Spondivits -Best Fast Food:Sonic -Best Place To Take Your Grandma:The Collenade -Best Restaurant Outside The Metro Area:The Smithhouse -Hottest Servers:Tavern at Phipps -Restaurants With The Biggest Drinks:T.J's -Best Restaurant When You Have The Munchies:Buffalo's -Best Brunch:Ritz Carlton Buckhead -Best Restaurant When You Are Drunk At 3AM:Marietta Diner -Best Peach Cobbler:Kelly's Home Cooking -Best Free Bread Basket:Roadhouse Grill -Best All You Can Eat Joint:Blue Willow Inn -Best Bathrooms:Bahama Breeze -Best Chinese Joint:China King -Best Ribs:Harold's -Best Food At A Strip Joint:Alluvia at The Cheetah -Best Place To Take Out Of Town Guests:Imperial Fez -Best Bang For Your Buck:Figo Pasta -Most Obscure Menu Item:Beef Marrow at Rathbuns |
