Major Weekend Construction:
- All major lane blockages on state roads have been postponed for the Labor Day weekend.
Major Events:
- Henry Co.: NASCAR at Atlanta Motor Speedway Traffic Plan...Fans have a choice of which major route to take, either Hwy. 19/41 or Hwy. 20 from I-75 southbound. I-75 northbound race fans can exit at Exit 212 Hampton-Locust Grove Road or Exit 218, GA Hwy 20. Please choose which route to take based on where you would like to park on property; fans will be directed to a certain lot based on the direction from which they enter the speedway. Trams, shuttle buses and sidewalks will allow fans to get to their seats easily, regardless of where they park on property. Be advised that the direction from which fans enter speedway property is the same direction to which they will exit out. Traffic will be heaviest Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. For live, airborne traffic updates on race day Sunday, listen to Skycopter/Skyplane Traffic reports from 4-7 p.m. during the Allan Vigil Ford Lincoln Mercury Speedshop on AM-750 and NOW 95.5 FM News/Talk WSB.
- Atlanta: Dragon-Con Parade Route...The parade goes forward on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta GA, rain or shine, on Saturday morning of the convention weekend. (Labor Day Weekend) Start time is 10:00 AM. The parade starts at Peachtree St and Auburn Ave, about 4.5 blocks south of the Hyatt Regency's front entrance. The route follows Peachtree St north to Baker St (at the Hyatt Regency) and then continues east on Baker St to Courtland Ave and ends at the Marriott Marquis' back entrance. Also remember that Dragon-Con activities will cause extra traffic Downtown near the major hotels. There are other evens Downtown that will add extra pressure to area roads.
Ongoing Construction:
- Fulton Co.: Hammond Drive Half-Diamond Project...There is a lane shift on GA-400 in both directions just north of I-285, that is causing delays on GA-400 during peak driving times (especially southbound during morning rush hour). Also, expect various lane closures during overnights and weekends on GA-400, the I-285 ramps in the area, and on Hammond Dr. Listen to AM 750 and Now 95.5 FM News/Talk WSB for updates.
- DeKalb Co.: I-20 Resurfacing...Expect various lane closures along I-20 between Columbia Dr. and Turner Hill Rd. on nights and weekends from now until the Fall. The project will resume and end in Spring 2011.
- Atlanta: Sewer Repair...MLK Jr. Dr. is blocked between Sunset Ave. and Griffin St. until Sept. 17th.
- Atlanta: Sewer Repair...W. Paces Ferry Rd. between Andrews Dr. and Slaton Dr. Expect various lane closures in this area from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Mondays thru Fridays, from Monday, Aug. 16th to Friday, Sept. 10th.
- Coweta Co.: I-85 in both directions south of Collinsworth Rd., exit 56. There are various lane closures in both directions, during the midday, weekend, and overnight hours. Expect delays and use Highway 29 as an alternate. There is also a lane shift in the area, narrowing much of this stretch to two lanes. The new additional lane has finally opened on I-85 in S. Fulton Co.

School Bus Law:
- There has been some confusion on the protocol about stopping for school buses. Here is an excerpt from the 2009 Georgia Drivers Manual, chapter 9, page 98: "In most cases, all drivers are required to stop when approaching or meeting a stopped school bus that has its lights flashing and is loading or unloading passengers. The exception to this rule is when highways are separated in the center by median strips. In this situation, only vehicles following or traveling alongside a school bus in the same direction must stop. Warning will be given in advance by the flashing red or amber lights on the front and rear of the bus. After stopping, you must remain stopped until the bus resumes motion or deactivates its warning signals AND all loading or unloading passengers have cleared the roadway. When traveling behind or alongside school buses, or in residential areas or school districts where school buses are likely to be loading or unloading, remain alert for school children walking along the road, crossing the road, or waiting on the side of the road for the bus. Because smaller children may not always follow standard pedestrian safety rules, drivers in the area should be prepared to react to their unexpected movements. Do not rely only upon the actions of the school bus driver."
- And here is the language of the State Law: "§ 40-6-163. Duty of driver of vehicle meeting or overtaking school bus; reporting of violations (a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this Code section, the driver of a vehicle meeting or overtaking from either direction any school bus stopped on the highway shall stop before reaching such school bus when there are in operation on the school bus the visual signals as specified in Code Sections 40-8-111 and 40-8-115, and such driver shall not proceed until the school bus resumes motion or the visual signals are no longer actuated. (b) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway with separate roadways need not stop upon meeting or passing a school bus which is on a different roadway, or upon a controlled-access highway when the school bus is stopped in a loading zone which is a part of or adjacent to such highway and where pedestrians are not permitted to cross the roadway."
