  • Pretty "FAIR" Tax Idea ...
Fair Tax, or no, I don't think any government should get more than what God asks for Himself, that is, 10%, or the Tithe.

Yet I think the Fair Tax is the right direction to go. If you don't spend it, you don't pay it! How simply AND SWEET is that?! It sure beats, "If you don't spend it, because you don't have it, we (The Government) will tax you anyway!"
  • Neal is not the creater of the FairTax - DO RESEARCH
The Fair Tax was NOT created by Neal Bortz, it was created by a think-tank of econmist and tax specialist (some from Yale and other top schools/industries) as an alternative to the overgrown, too powerful, and abusive IRS/income tax system. You should actually learn something about a subject before you post. The main group that would benefit would be the POOR! In the FairTax you would receive ALL of your paycheck and only pay tax on what you spend, it becomes optional tax, not forced...and since the wealthy spend more than the poor the wealthy would still pay a heavy tax burden. Also everyone in America would get a refund check or debit card EVERY MONTH, to reimburse for taxes paid on FOOD, CLOTHING, and SHELTER... I can understand that you may not like the source that is discussing the FairTax but don't blame the idea for your dislike of the speaker.. Neal is not the CREATOR of the FairTax, just an avid promoter.

There are plenty of other sources for you to learn about the FairTax, maybe you should research a little before you comment....
  • Look at other messages from the author!
I think that one has to look at the source of any idea to determine if it's something to consider. This idea comes from a man who believes that because of his personal contributions to society and the amount of money he makes, his vote should count more than anyone else. He also believes that the way you help a homeless person is not to become one. So I think anyone who puts this kind of time and effort into a idea has something to gain. If this idea is to benefit anyone in our society let me guess what those folks have in common.
  • Time to move your cheese
Neal, I've read the book, read the reports and I've listened to the all of the negative feed back regarding the fair tax. The idea is sound and is a great idea that will boost this already troubling economy. The problem is those people who have opposed this idea are afraid to move their cheese. They are afraid. So they look for excuses why it won't work so they can stay in their comfort zone. We have to keep pushing the ideas and get past this fear. Maybe give them another book to read Who moved my cheese. The old tax system is old and needs to change. But not with another tax code or increase. We need to move on to something new and this is the best idea out there.
  • Clear Message needed from media
There is a need for the news medai to get it right about the FairTax. I am so tired of their assumptions that the FairTax is in addition to the IRS... It replaces the IRS and all other government "CONTROL" of the people's income.
  • Assumptions
What do you expect from Jay Bookman who works for the A Jazera Constitution, All he knows is that he hasn't read the book and that he and his co-workers at the AJC obviously know more than anybody else how to run the Gov't like their newspaper-into the ground.
When will they learn that you can't run a business or the gov't with Emotion!!
This from a trade union member, haha
  • assumptions
Neal, LET Jay Bookman assume right. IT SIMPLY DOESN'T MATTER. Right now 23% of my pay is gone before I receive my paycheck. To that, I have to add an additional 6% in sales tax when I make a purchases. So there ... that's the 29% Jay Bookman is referring to. ALL ELSE being equal, with the Fair Tax, I STILL get rid of the IRS requirements, don't have to pay any type of investment taxes, ALL consumers ( tourists, illegal immigrants, drug dealers, "the evil wealthy," day laboreres, etc ) would be paying the tax, thus, contributing to OUR system. So, in essence, I would not see a change, and I suspect I would most likely see an increase in the money I get to keep. NOT TO MENTION the provision for the monthly rebate.......
WHAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH THAT Jay ?????
  • FAIR TAX
Gentlemen (you too Neal). Good try, but the party is over. Your fair tax is great, but it will never pass a Democratic Congress or Mr. Obama. End of story. So, put it back on the shelf and wait 8 year. Hopefully, the Republican Party will come up with a young, intelligent standard bearer who knows how to speak.

  • Fair Tax and education
As long as there are folks in this country who want "a free ride" and liberals want these folks to vote for them, there will be no fair tax. The word "fair" is a word that gets thrown out at the git-go.
EDUCATION: I am so sick and tired of throwing money at our education problems, and blaming teachers for the fact our children are not learning. Up until 1963 when I graduated from high school, we had a darn good educational system. Teachers had more students, less money, less help, less time off (never heard of teacher work days when school was out-- they worked every day) and graded papers and prepared report cards at night all for less pay. There were no drugs or riots nor guns and teachers afraid of students. They had paddles and they used them. We learned back then. Why don't some rocket scientist check it out and determine when our educational problems began and just maybe the problem will slap you in the face. We cannot fix the problem until we identify it. In throwing more money at it, is it not possible we are "feeding" the problem. Identifying the problems, however, may just require someone having the intestinal fortitude enough to "call a spade, a spade" and letting the chips fall where they may. I doubt that will ever happen.
  • 23 and 30 percent
Why do the sceptics dwell so long on what the number is. The number is whatever it has to be to match the current cost of the federal government, based on the current retail sales. High or low doesn't matter, it just has to be right.
  • fair tax
what so hard to understand? You spend a dollar you pay .23 cents tax. Evasion will be next to impossible, you get all your pay check, and you decide how much taxes you want to believe. Everyone pays... illegals, vistors, drug dealers, day laborers, everyone who spends contributes. Not like now where the top 50% carry the rest of the low income scum. Keep it simple, stupid.
