Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy award-winning Louis Gossett Jr. was honored Monday, October 1st by the city of Atlanta with the proclamation and 'Phoenix' award.
The City of Atlanta honored Louis Gossett Jr. for his contributions to the entertainment industry and his body of work in theater, film and television during the past six decades.

The Atlanta City Council made a proclamation declaring Oct. 1 “Louis Gossett Jr. Day.” Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’s office presented Mr. Gossett with the Phoenix Award, the highest honor the Mayor can bestow on a civilian.

The actor is known for being the first African-American male to win an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor in the 1982 film, “An Officer and A Gentleman.” He recently sold his Malibu home and moved to Atlanta to work on a new project.
