On September 11, 2001, as members of the Islamic extremist group Al Qaeda coordinated attacks on American soil, 95.5 WSB’s Robyn Walensky found herself ‘covering catastrophe’ firsthand.
At the time, Walensky was reporting for The Associated Press Radio in New York City when the unimaginable happened.
Twenty years later, one moment in particular that stands out to Walensky is running into a woman who was worried her husband may have been among the victims in the collapse of the first of the iconic Twin Towers.
Fortunately, the woman’s husband survived and Walensky witnessed the couple’s emotional reunion firsthand, streets away from the chaos unfolding at the World Trade Center.
>>Listen to audio of the reunion in Walensky’s on-air report below.
Walensky is co-author of the 9/11 history book Covering Catastrophe: Broadcast Journalists Report 9-11-01.
