Atlanta police expect murder suspect to turn himself in Monday

The Atlanta Police Department’s homicide unit has obtained an arrest warrant for 36-year old Robert Bivines on the charge of felony murder. Bivines’ attorney confirmed that Bivines planned to turn himself in to police on Monday Feb. 19. Bivines will then be formally arrested and transported to the Fulton County Jail for booking. The charges stem from the Saturday night shooting death of Ryan Thornton.

Atlanta police described the incident which occurred Saturday night:

Around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night (2/17/18) Atlanta Police responded to a call of a person shot at 2870 Pharr Court South in Buckhead. When officers arrived, they found a victim was being transported to Grady in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim later died from his injuries. Investigators arrived on scene and preliminarily determined from witnesses that the victim, a 30-year-old male, had placed a food delivery via smartphone app, Uber Eats. The victim went down to meet the driver, received his order and began walking away from the vehicle. As the victim was walking away, it appears words may have been exchanged between he and the delivery driver. Shots were apparently fired from the delivery vehicle, striking the victim. The delivery driver, in a white Volkswagen, fled the scene.

Police Department spokesman Carlos Campos says there will be no further public statements for now.
