Eight counties in northeast Georgia will recount August 11 runoff votes this morning, looking to confirm the results of a state Senate election apparently won by Bo Hatchett. Hatchett holds a 37 vote lead over Habersham County Commission Chairman Stacy Hall. That’s out of almost 25,000 votes that were cast in the race to replace Stephens County Senator John Wilkinson. Wilkinson left the legislature to wage an unsuccessful campaign for Congress.

In anticipation of a bigger voter turnout for this year’s elections, the Elections Supervisor in Franklin County has moved the County’s early voting location: previously held at the Franklin County Elections Office, it will be held this year at the old Carnesville Elementary School building. Three weeks of early voting begins on October 12; Election Day is November 3, 64 days from today.
