No doubt some Falcons seasons tickets holders were looking forward to going to NFL games in a shiny-new retractable roof stadium.

Just like getting a new car or house.

Then there is the bill.

Keeping with a trend that is sweeping the NFL, Falcons fans may be asked to help pay for the proposed stadium through personal seat licenses that can cost thousands of dollars, based on a document obtained by the AJC.

A PSL is basically an up-front one-time fee that gives a season-ticket holder the right to buy the tickets.

The plan is not official yet. It’s the most recent draft of a non-binding term sheet that is being negotiated between the Falcons and the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. But it’s the first sign that the team is thinking about using PSLs.

Personal seat licenses commonly have been used in the financing of NFL stadiums over the past 15 years.

The PSL can last for the life of the building, or a set number of years.

According to the document, the Falcons would have “the right to determine the exact terms of such seat rights program, including price, term, etc.”

The Falcons and the GWCCA have been in negotiations for 20 months about a possible new stadium, which would be built on GWCCA property near the Dome and cost around $1 billion.
