MILTON, Ga. — Over Memorial Day weekend, Milton residents may see and hear legal fireworks since Saturday and Sunday are two of the few days, annually, that they’re allowed per city ordinance.

State law dictates that fireworks must be allowed on certain days, with the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend being among them. So between 10 a.m. and midnight, they are permitted in Milton.

According to a message from the City of Milton firework page, owners of animals, including horses, should take precautions knowing that fireworks are a possibility for the holiday weekend. Loud, explosive fireworks can alarm animals and potentially lead to them or others getting hurt.

Veterans with PTSD can also be very sensitive to fireworks. This is something to keep in mind if you are considering setting off fireworks in the vicinity of animals or other locations where people affected.

The message also emphasizes that fireworks are not allowed all weekend.

In addition to morning hours, they’re not allowed on Friday night or anytime Monday, which is actually Memorial Day.

If you hear fireworks at non-permitted dates and times, you can call 911 and provide as much information as possible so the officers can investigate.
