Gas prices down, could go further

Gas prices haven't been this low in two years, and they could fall even more.

Many WSB listeners, who responded to the open mic feature on the WSB Radio app, report seeing gas under $3 a gallon.

AAA says the average price in Georgia is currently $3.05 a gallon.  The auto club predicts the statewide average will be under $3 by Thanksgiving.

AAA spokesman Josh Carrasco says "Motorists are paying $5 to $15 less to fill their tanks than they were around July 4th."  "Gas prices should continue to fall through the end of the year," said Carrasco. "$3 a gallon and cheaper should become a common sight for motorists.

Some of our neighboring states are also seeing lower prices.  The price for a gallon of regular unleaded fell 9 cents in Florida to $3.15 a gallon.  In Tennessee, the average price at the pump is $2.89, down 11 cents from last week.

Why the lower prices?  U.S. oil production has soared to levels not seen since 1985.
