Move over Hollywood, Georgia is becoming a popular place to film.
A just-released report shows that southern California lost thousands of jobs in the movie industry to other states. Lee Thomas with the Georgia Department of Economic Development tells Channel 2 Action News Georgia got hundreds of those jobs because of tax breaks.
"At last count we had 32 shows, a combination of television and films going on," said Thomas.
The report shows that the film and TV industry in Los Angeles lost more than 16,000 jobs in the last eight years, down 14 percent. Georgia picked up more than 800 of those jobs.
"You know, we get $1.24 for every dollar that is given away in tax credits. And all these people are employed, the hotels are busy, the restaurants are busy," said Thomas.
There are currently several productions going on in metro Atlanta.
"Years ago, we said we could crew one or two movies. We'd say we were two deep, meaning we could crew two movies. Now, we say we are nine or ten deep," said Thomas.
