In honor of the NBA All-Star Game being played in Atlanta, a mural was unveiled Sunday in the Cabbagetown neighborhood.

The creation by artist Kyle Holbrook is a 21-foot-high depiction of Hawks’ star Trae Young. Holbrook shows him wearing a mask to remind anyone in the city – living here or visiting – that the pandemic continues. Young is wearing an All-Star jersey, as Holbrook says Young should have been chosen and playing in Sunday night’s All-Star Game.

The over-arching message: despite the rollout of the vaccine in its early weeks, the need remains to social distance and wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“I wanted to use the platform of the All-Star Game with the whole world watching Atlanta to remind everyone to continue to practice vigilance and wear masks so that as a country and the world we can defeat this virus in solidarity,” says Holbrook.

MLKmural.com sponsored the project.
