Gwinnett County parents get one more chance to speak out about a new redistricting map that will affect more than 13,000 students next fall.

The school district is opening a 19th cluster including a new high school and elementary school on Old Norcross Road. A new middle school will open in the Central Gwinnett cluster and a new elementary school in the Meadowcreek cluster.

“The new high school will be primarily relieving students in the Berkmar and the Central Gwinnett clusters; so there will be a lot of changes in those clusters as students shift to this new high school and cluster,” says spokesperson Sloan Roach.

Students in the Meadowcreek, Norcross, Peachtree Ridge, and Brookwood clusters will also be affected.

The proposed maps can be found on the school district’s website and were last updated on Monday. Maps have also been available at the affected schools. The first public hearing was held earlier this month.

“Redistricting is not easy and we’ve been able to make some changes based on feedback we’ve received,” says Roach.

The final public hearing will be held today at 5:30 with the school board expected to vote during its 7 p.m. meeting.
