One family in Georgia is still in shock after finding an owl hiding inside their Christmas tree.
CNN’s Leah Asmelash reports that the discovery came last Thursday evening, “when Katie McBride Newman and her two children, India and Jack, were finishing dinner.”
Ten-year-old India had begun clearing the table and was in another room when Newman tells CNN she heard her yell, "Oh my gosh!"
"She comes very dramatically into the dining room and goes, 'Mama, that ornament scared me,'" Newman added. "Then she bursts into tears."
Newman tells CNN that she is a huge fan of owls, so their tree already had “about a dozen owl ornaments gracing its branches.”
Thinking her daughter India had just been spooked by one of those ornaments, Newman says she initially went to check on the situation in order to mainly to calm India’s fears.
However, when she peered into the tree for the ornament, CNN’s Asmelash reports that Newman saw the owl turn its head and look straight at her.
"And I'm like, 'Oh, that's a real owl,'" Newman recalls.
Meanwhile, Asmelash writes poor India had disappeared into the other room, in tears again.
