DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police say that a 2-year-old boy has died after being shot in DeKalb County.

It happened shortly before 5:45 p.m. along Shamrock Drive near Decatur.

Officers said the boy was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died from his injuries.

Investigators say the boy’s father, 39-year-old Michael Labiron, left a gun unsecured and the child picked it up and accidentally shot himself.

Labiron has been arrested and charged with felony murder and cruelty to children.

He is currently being booked into the DeKalb County Jail.
