22-year-old Griffin man drowns during a weekend duck hunting trip in Alabama

HENRY COUNTY, AL — A 22-year-old Griffin man drowned during a weekend duck hunting trip at Lake Eufaula on the Georgia-Alabama line.

In the early hours of 5 a.m. on December 15, Henry County Patrol Deputies were dispatched near the island out from Thomas Mill Creek.

After the group’s boat drifted away from an island they were on, the young man attempted to swim out to retrieve the craft, but he soon disappeared. A search and rescue operation became a recovery effort, and dive teams found the man’s body in about 20 feet of water.

The name of the drowning victim has not been released.

Since the location where the incident happened is in Georgia, the Georgia DNR will be taking over the investigation.

“This is a very tragic incident, I would like to express my thanks to the timely response by so many agencies to help us this morning. However, this isn’t the outcome we were hoping for. Please keep this family and his friends in your thoughts and prayers as they cope with this difficult situation.” said Sheriff Eric Blankenship.
