ATLANTA, GA — It’s the inaugural year for the 10K Polar Opposite Road Race by the Atlanta track Club.

On Saturday, five thousand registered runners will gather at Piedmont Park and then run down Cardiac Hill to Lenox Square where the race will end.

Rich Kenah with the Atlanta Track Club says this race is smaller than the Peachtree Road Race. “We intentionally kept it small in year one. Just like the first year of the Peachtree in 1970 was, there were only 110 people who finished the first Peachtree.”

It’s the exact opposite route of the Peachtree Road Race that’s held every July 4th in Atlanta.

Participants must pick up packets by 6 p.m. today and they have the chance to register for both races. Those who participate in the race will receive an adidas hoodie and medal. The design of the hoodie has not been revealed.

The race starts at 8:15 a.m., but officials recommend being in place no later than 7:30a.m. Peachtree Street and some other roads will be closed for the race.
