One third of the country is expected to travel 50 miles or more for the upcoming holiday travel season.
“One hundred and seven million people will drive,” said transportation correspondent Kris Van Cleave. “Gas will be around $3 per gallon. The nation’s airlines are expected to fly 53 million people. That would be a record.”
Van Cleave said the Sunday before Christmas is expected to be the busiest day on the roads. The weekends bookending Christmas should be the busiest at the airports.
AAA also predicts record travel in Georgia with more than 3.7 million residents hitting the roads and skies. That total would break the previous record set last year by more than 100,000 travelers.
