Affordable housing, retail to be built on site of former Atlanta Medical Center

ATLANTA — Georgia officials have exciting new plans for the site of the former Atlanta Medical Center in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood which is set to be demolished beginning in February.

Chad Maddock with the demolition company Ferma says crews will refrain from using implosions to bring down the building.

Developers plan to turn the 22-acre campus into a neighborhood with affordable housing, residential properties, community and public green space, neighborhood-level retail, new street access, commercial uses, and health and well-being resources.

“We will work closely with the city to build on its revitalization plan and bring to life our shared vision of a thriving, healthy addition to the Old Fourth Ward,” Candice L. Saunders, president and CEO of Wellstar Health System previously said.
