APD officer reinstated; city to appeal

A judge is ordering one of the Atlanta cops reinstates who was fired after the Eagle Bar raid.

The raid cost the city more than $1,000,000 in legal settlement and led to big changes in the police department.

Patrons complained they were physically and verbally abused by members of the "Red Dog" unit that carried out the raid.  No patrons ever faced any charges.  The "Red Dogs" were disbanded.

The judge found there was no evidence Sgt. Willie Adams lied to investigators.

Adams is also in line for partial back pay; if the city follows the judge's order undoing Adams' firing.

It may not.  Channel 2 Action News received a city statement saying, "The city respectfully disagrees with the judge's order to reinstate Sergeant Adams and plans to appeal."

Adams has spent the past few months working at the Clayton County sheriff's office.
