COWETA COUNTY, GA — COWETA COUNTY, Ga. —The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol are searching for an “armed and dangerous” suspect led police on a chase and fled the scene after a shooting in Coweta County on Wednesday.
Officials say a chase ended near South Highway 29 and Calico Loop near Grantville. A suspect got out of a car and fled on foot with an AR-15 assault rifle.
According to Georgia State Patrol, a K9 officer was injured in a shooting. The dog was airlifted to a hospital where it is undergoing surgery.
The sheriff’s office says this person is believed to be “armed and dangerous,” and they want the public to avoid the area.
The search is centered in a neighborhood with about 60 homes. Police have urged residents to stay indoors and lock everything.
Glanton Elementary School, which is located two miles away from where the shooting took place, was originally placed on a delayed release; Students have since been released safely to their parents and guardians.
