Atlanta city leaders say crime has declined, safety has improved during past year

ATLANTA — Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and Atlanta Chief of Police Darin Schierbaum joined several dignitaries joined for a press conference on Monday announcing a significant drop in crime in the city of Atlanta.

Mayor Dickens said 9-1-1 dispatchers have cut their response time in half this year.

Mayor Dickens said “we’re making significant improvements in all categories of safety.”

According to a recent public Atlanta Police Department report on crime in the city, crimes against properties and people have decreased.

“Overall crime is down 5 percent over the previous year, with an 8 percent reduction in crimes against persons, and a 5 percent reduction in crimes against property,” said Schierbaum.
