ATLANTA — An Atlanta officer is recovering after police said a driver hit him with a stolen SUV.
The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. Thursday in northwest Atlanta when police said officers spotted and then started following an SUV taken during a carjacking earlier that morning.
Officers followed the SUV from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to the 2000 block of Peek Road where they initiated a traffic stop, police said.
After stopping, police said the SUV suddenly reversed, and backed up into one of the two officers and pinned him between the SUV and patrol car. At that point, the other officer fired at the driver of the SUV, police said.

The SUV drove off but was later found abandoned a short distance away.
Police are still searching for the driver of the SUV. Officers believe the suspect may be armed since the SUV was originally taken at gunpoint.
The injured officer was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police did not have a description of the suspect but said there may have been a second person in the SUV. They are still investigating.
