ATLANTA — You’re not imagining it: Atlanta has the worst inflation in the country, which means everything from fuel to groceries to home prices are going up.
Channel 2′s Justin Wilfon talked to economist KC Conway about why Atlanta has been hit so hard by rising prices.

“I look at antidotal things, the cost of bacon, cost of used cars, paint. All those things are way up,” Conway said. “And when you have almost double-digit bacon inflation, we have real inflation.”
Conway said that at least part of the problem is Atlanta’s booming population.
“The thing that’s driving that is population migration,” Conway said. “Not only are we seeing the price of everything go up like everybody else, but we’re seeing everybody else come here for jobs.”

Clothes maker Erik Gordon, who owns the Sweat Company, said he’s raised the prices on his sweatpants to make up for the higher cost of shipping materials from overseas.
“When I started seeing the exorbitant price increases with shipping costs, is when I had to make a pivot,” Gordon said.

Conway said that unfortunately, high inflation rates could be a long-term problem in metro Atlanta and that high prices are likely to stick around for the next year or two.
