Prized possessions of Coca-Cola president, philanthropist Robert Woodruff up for auction

ATLANTA — Prized possessions from the Robert Woodruff estate will soon be up for auction.

Channel 2′s Berndt Petersen when to check out some of the items that you can buy and caught up with Candace and Michael Ahlstrom, who were doing a little browsing.

“What did you see that you really wanted?” Petersen asked the couple.

“Hmmm,” Candace Ahlstrom remarked.

They looked through hundreds of one-of-a -kind items that belonged to one of Atlanta’s most famous businessmen.

“I mean, wherever he went he was treated like a king,” Michael Ahlstrom said.

Robert Woodruff was born in 1889 and died in 1985. For more than 3 decades, from the 1920s to the 50s, he led the Coca-Cola Company.

“For a Coca-Cola collector, things that came from Mr. Woodruff are the Holy Grail because he was the man,” Ahlers & Ogletree Gallery owner Robert Ahlers said.

The auction is full of possessions even those in the auction business might covet, such as a little 4.6 carat diamond that Woodruff gave to his wife Nell.

TRENDING STORIES:

“There are a few. Obviously, the ring, I’m obsessed with,” said Elizabeth Rickenbaker with the gallery.

Other items up for auction: A Robert Woodruff portrait painted by Norman Rockwell and a George Washington portrait painted President Dwight Eisenhower.

Woodruff and Eisenhower were close friends and golfing buddies with golf legend Bobby Jones.

There’s an elk that Woodruff may or may not have shot, golf club covers that came from a leopard — which he did shoot — and much more.

“This is Robert Woodruff’s travel spoon. A solid gold spoon for every man,” Rickenbaker said showing the spoon off to Petersen.

Some of the items may be a little pricey. The diamond ring could fetch more than $100,000.

Candace Ahlstrom could only laugh when asked if she’d like to bid on it.

The live online auction run by the Ahlers & Ogletree Gallery in Buckhead starts Saturday at 10 a.m.
