Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis announced the city's police department will begin patrolling July 31 – exactly one year from the day residents voted to incorporate the city of Brookhaven.
Davis made the announcement at a July 9 press conference in front of one of the police department's new patrol cars.
"A year to the day that the citizens voted to incorporate the city of Brookhaven, they'll see their own police cars patrolling," Davis said. "That's a significant milestone."
Police Chief Gary Yandura said the department has completed its hiring process, ending with a total of 54 officers, including command staff.
Officers will begin a two-week training program July 15, Yandura said.
