Buckhead Tin Lizzy’s on fire (Georgia Department of Transportation)

ATLANTA — A popular restaurant in the heart of Buckhead was severely damaged during a fire Tuesday morning.

Atlanta firefighters were called to the Tin Lizzy’s Cantina on Piedmont Road near Roswell Road just before 6 a.m.

Within five minutes, crews had arrived on the scene and heavy flames coming out of the left side of the restaurant.

Fire officials on the scene said they do not believe the building was a total loss, thanks to brick walls on the exterior of the building.

They also confirmed that in order to put some of the fire out, they had to remove portions of the roof.

Officials with Atlanta Gas Light say that when they arrived, the gas had already been turned off, but they took additional safety precautions to make sure the fire did not become more dangerous.

The fire caused some damage to the inside of the restaurant.

Because the restaurant was closed, the building was empty at the time of the fire.

Officials are still working to learn what caused the fire.

Southern Proper Hospitality Group, which operates Tin Lizzy’s Cantina, released a statement on Tuesday morning that read:

“There was a fire at our Buckhead location of Tin Lizzy’s last night at 3639 Piedmont Road. We are working with the fire department and investigators to determine the cause and the damage. We are grateful that no one was in the building at the time. This location will be closed today as we assess the situation and will keep everyone updated as we know more.”
