ATLANTA — An officer shot in the head during a police chase is showing improvement and received some good news in his road to recovery.

Earlier this month, investigators said two men from Alabama led police and deputies through a high-speed chase through Carroll County.

Carrollton police Sgt. Rob Holloway was shot by one of the suspects and crashed into a utility pole. He had been at Grady Memorial Hospital since the shooting.

Holloway is now out of the ICU at Grady Memorial Hospital and was moved to the Shepherd Center this week to begin his rehab.

The police department posted photos of his fellow officers escorting him to the center along with the Atlanta police department’s motor unit.

Holloway is currently in the center’s ICU, but the department says he will move to the Shepherd Center’s renowned brain injury rehabilitation program.

A GoFundMe account to support the medical costs has been set up.

“Stephanie, Grady, the rest of Rob’s family, and Carrollton Police Department are grateful for the excellent care he received while at Grady and are looking forward to this next chapter in his journey of healing. The family is still very appreciative of the outpouring of support from this community, but is still requesting privacy at this time. All public updates will be handled through this department.”

Two other officers were also injured in the pursuit and are recovering. Villa Rica officer Chase Gordy was shot three times but has been released from the hospital. Carroll County Deputy Jay Repetto was shot in the arm and was released later on the day of the shooting. A fourth officer was injured but not shot.

Channel 2 Action News has been staying in close contact with family and friends of the other victims.

Repetto was shot in the arm and continues to recover at home. Corporal Jamison Troutt of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office wasn’t hit by gunfire but sustained other injuries during the chase.

Channel 2 Action News also spoke with Gordy when he was released from the hospital.

“I didn’t even have to think. My body did everything for me and with there being no cover around, I think everything I did was the best I could do,” Gordy said.
