CARROLLTON – The Carrollton Police Department have two men from the state of Washington in custody that are wanted in connection with a multi-state crime spree.
Abdoulah Barry, 21, and Natnael Berhanu, 20, are facing 31 felony charges.
According to a press release issued by CPD, the investigation began on August 1 of last year when they were notified that a white BMW, believed to have been involved in a theft at One Life Fitness in Newnan was in the Carrollton area.
Carrollton officers spotted the vehicle in a nearby parking lot, where the suspects fled at high speeds, driving recklessly through the parking lot and onto South Park Street.
Police say after a brief pursuit through multiple streets and highways, officers made the decision to terminate the chase due to safety concerns.
The release stated that after CPD investigated further after the chase, and found that the two suspects had also stolen items from members at Club Fitness in Carrollton prior to the Newnan theft.
The two men had been traveling across the country committing similar crimes while using rented vehicles.
Charges against the two include Financial Transaction Card Theft, Financial Transaction Card Fraud, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude, and violations under the Georgia RICO Act.
They were arrested in Washington state while attempting to flee the country and were booked into the Carroll County Jail on Tuesday.
