Case of measles is confirmed in metro Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA — The state health department has confirmed this year’s first case of measles in Georgia.

Last year, there were six reported cases.

The health department is in the process of contact tracing to identify those who came in contact with the person between January 18th through the 24th while they were infectious.

This person got the virus while traveling within the US.

Doctors and other health officials are reminding the public that measles is very contagious which is why its imperative to make sure you and your family are vaccinated.

Symptoms appear seven to fourteen days after exposure and typically include fever, cough running nose, and a rash.
