Many customers of Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A are demanding answers.
Channel 2′s Justin Wilfon spoke with customers who say their Chick-fil-A accounts were seemingly broken into this week, allowing apparent hackers to take hundreds of dollars from their bank accounts.
“Definitely not a fun thing to lose $100 right at the beginning of the year,” said one victim in Paulding County who did not want to be identified.
She says it appears hackers used her Chick-fil-A account information to remove the money from her checking account.
“That’s the scariest part, what information do they have,” she asked of the apparent hackers.
The Paulding County woman says the money that was taken out of her bank account was loaded onto her Chick-fil-A app.
“So I guess my next steps are to reach out to Chick-fil-A and see do I get my money back or am I expected to spend the $100 at Chick-fil-A,” she wondered.
It’s the same story being told by countless people on social media over the past couple of days all across the country. Chick-fil-A customers who say money was taken out of their bank accounts and loaded onto their apps.
Chick-Fil-A released a statement following reports. The Atlanta-based company called it ‘suspicious’ activity. The full statement is below:
“While we are still investigating what happened and how certain customers became subject to this fraudulent activity, this is not due to a compromise of Chick-fil-A inc.’s internal systems.”
The company added they’re committed to protecting their customers data and are working to resolve the issue.
In the Paulding County woman’s case, she says the apparent hacker never spent the money loaded onto her app, but it’s unclear if that’s the case for every victim.
“I’m just surprised for being such a big company, that this can happen,” she said.
