The community is coming together this week to help a Clayton County deputy whose family lost everything in a house fire.

K9 Deputy Jamal Hunter received a call from his family while he was working that their house in Gwinnett County had caught on fire. Gwinnett firefighters did everything they could to save the home, but it has been deemed a total loss.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the Hunter family with a goal of $10,000.

“Deputy Hunter is extremely grateful for the incredible outpour of support he has received during this difficult time,” Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill said.

Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes spoke with Hunter’s wife earlier this week. The Hunters have three kids ages 12, 9 and 7 and thankfully none of them were hurt.

The sheriff’s office said Hunter’s K9 partner Scout was injured in the fire and had burns on his feet. Officials said Thursday that Scout is resting comfortably but may need surgery to tend to his burns.
