A two year old Bernedoodle named Bentley is the newest edition to the Cobb County Police Department.
The Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle mix was trained through Trails of Hope, a non-profit in Gay, Georgia that turns stray dogs into service animals.
Bentley has had over 300 hours of training and multiple American Kennel Club certifications.
Officer Aaron Wilson says he will fill a critical role.
“His role is to assist officers with their mental health. He’s not out there chasing bad guys and hunting down people that are lost or hurt or anything like that,” he said.
Bentley will respond with the department’s Peer Support Unit after critical incidents to provide comfort to officers on the scene.
