School shooting threats posted on social media after shots fired at football game

SMYRNA, Ga. — Parents say that the morning after shots were fired at a football game in Cobb County, disturbing threats were circulating on social media alluding to a potential school shooting.

Smyrna police are investigating an incident that happened Friday night as a crowd was leaving a football scrimmage between Campbell High School and South Cobb High.

Police said as the crowd was heading to the parking lot after the pre-season scrimmage between the two schools, several shots rang out.

The shots sent people running for cover but nobody was shot or injured in the melee. Smyrna police, Cobb County police and Cobb County Campus police all responded to help calm the crowd.

Channel 2′s Ashli Lincoln was in Cobb County Saturday, where parents reported that their children woke up to threats against Campbell High School on social media. The posts, which were shared with Channel 2 Action News, allude to a potential school shooting at the high school on Monday.

Smyrna police confirmed that they are investigating the threats, which were posted on Snapchat. Police said that they have been flooded with calls from worried parents and that they take the threats very seriously.

They are asking anyone who might have seen a suspect or suspects shooting guns in the parking lot area or has video or information on the incident to call them at 770-434-6666. Smyrna Police stress that callers can remain anonymous if they choose.
