The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) reported that it will close the Miller Road bridge over Interstate 20 in Stonecrest and Decatur for reconstruction starting Tuesday, according to a release issued by GDOT.

Weather permitting, the anticipated full closure and off-site detour will last for eight months, as part of the I-285/I-20 East Interchange project improvements.

GDOT states that motorists may use Panola Industrial Boulevard, Panola Road and Minola Drive to access either side of the Miller Road overpass area. Access to residential driveways, local businesses and public facilities will be maintained.

The release also advised motorists to “drive carefully around the detour and plan using the 511GA app.”

GDOT also says that navigation applications may not be up to date, so urges drivers to follow posted signage for the detour.

The I-285/I-20 East Interchange Project will reconstruct the interstate system-to-system ramps at the I-285/I-20 East Interchange and will add a combination of collector-distributor lanes, connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange.
