LAKE OCONEE, GA — For the third day, crews continue the search for a second person missing from a boat on Lake Oconee after the body of a woman was pulled from the water Sunday.
An empty boat was seen circling Lake Oconee over the weekend. The boat, near Wallace Dam, had lost power.
Witnesses said they had seen a man and a woman on the boat Saturday. On Sunday, sonar equipment helped the Department of Natural Resources locate the body of the woman. She is now identified as 49-year-old Jocelyn Nicole Wilson of Atlanta.
Crews searched for the man’s body Sunday and Monday, but did not locate him. Crews are back on the water Tuesday hoping to find him. He has been identified by Westminster School as one of their faculty members and coaches, Gary Jones.
Westminster, a Christian school in Atlanta, identified the man as faculty member and coach Gary Jones.
“Gary Jones is a beloved Westminster faculty member, coach, and parent. On Sunday, we received word from his family that Gary had gone missing while spending time at an area lake. Our entire community is praying for his safe return and his family during this difficult moment,” a spokesperson for the school wrote in a statement.
