An Alpharetta daycare is under a 21-day emergency shutdown as the state investigates the death of a one-year-old boy.

The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning’s Reg Griffin said the toddler choked on a piece of mango during breakfast at the Little Sunshine Playhouse and Preschool.

“Our investigation shows that the entire staff did everything they could, or at least on the surface everything they could, to try to resuscitate the child,” Griffin said.

The child was taken to the hospital where he died five days later. DECAL will decide by Jan. 25 whether to fine the daycare, or revoke its license.
