Decatur house fire kills one person, dog

DeKalb County fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a deadly house fire near Decatur.

DeKalb Fire Department Captain Eric Jackson tells WSB they received a call just after 11 a.m. Sunday to reports of a house in the 700 block of Medlock Road on fire.

"We did receive reports that there may possibly an entrapment so we had that in mind as we were arriving to the scene," said Eric Jakcson.

Jackson says they could see the smoke rising above before they even arrived.

"There were a total of five people inside the home, four of which, had made it out," said Jackson.

Two of the four received minor injuries.

The male victim was in the inner most part of the house. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. The man's dog also died in the blaze.

So far, no word on the cause of the fire or where it may have started. The house was a total loss.
