DECATUR, Ga. — Crews in DeKalb County have fixed the latest of several burst water mains over the last month.
Repairs have been made after the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management reported a 10-inch broken water main on Glendale Avenue in Decatur.
Neighbors told WSBTV that they lost water after midnight Friday and got it back just before 5 p.m.
“It was only ever a trickle, then it got totally dry, and we had no water,” said nearby resident Lee Pritchard.
Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management said they’ve had 56 pipes burst in recent weeks.
In January, a massive 30-inch water main broke near Clairmont Road, leaving thousands of people without water for days and 20,000 others under a boil water advisory.
Also in January, a water main break was reported in Buckhead on Pharr Road, and on North Druid Hills Road in Atlanta.
The break happened in front of an Enterprise Rental Car Center on Thursday forcing Peachtree Road to shut down as water could be seen shooting up 20 to 30 feet into the air like a geyser.
Peachtree Road has since reopened.
Al Wiggins, the Commissioner for the Department of Watershed Management said the pipe that burst on Peachtree Road was 108 years old.
“It’s been through a series of repairs and fluctuations of weather,” Wiggins said. “It’s outlasted it’s life cycle, so it failed.”
