Channel 2 Action News has also learned that Phillips pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing charges after admitting he destroyed one person’s laptop and slashed another person’s tires.
Phillips, who until today oversaw the Republican presidential candidate’s campaign efforts in Georgia, was arrested in 2008.
Bibb County sheriff’s deputies arrested him on battery and felony criminal damage, Richard Elliot learned. The charges arose from an incident involving two other people.
Phillips was hired to lead Trump’s Georgia operation in October after the abrupt departure of Seth Weathers, a GOP strategist. He helped orchestrate the New York businessman’s March primary victory in Georgia and worked to wrangle
Peach State delegates to back him as the nominee.
He’s also been an aggressive frontman for the campaign’s battle to keep Georgia in the GOP column. Democrat Hillary Clinton has added staff here and pumped in a six-figure investment in the state, though a spate of recent polls show
Trump has carved out a slim, if consistent, lead in Georgia.
