Family and community organizations rally for homeless man killed during clearing of an encampment

ATLANTA, GA — Family members and community organizations rallied today outside Atlanta City Hall after the death of a homeless man during the clearing of an encampment earlier this month.

Cornelius Taylor was killed in what a public works official calls a ‘tragic accident’ at the site.

Those organizing today’s rally claim he was crushed by a city truck while sleeping in a tent near the King Center.

The rally was held just before the Atlanta City Council’s 2 p.m. meeting.

Holding signs saying “Justice for Cornelius Taylor” the group on the steps of city hall say the death of Taylor shows the need for an overhaul of Atlanta’s policies regarding the homeless.

Community Activist Derreck Bozeman says his group delivered a letter to Mayor Dickens asking for a meeting to talk about policy changes. “Saying sorry is not enough.”
