Family mourns 16-year-old Coweta County high school football player killed following car crash

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A community is mourning the loss of a 16-year-old who was involved in a car accident.

Family and friends of 16-year-old Javier Dodson wrote on GoFundMe that on Feb. 11th, he was involved in a car accident on Canongate Road in Palmetto.

After the car accident, Dodson was rushed to a local hospital, where he underwent several medical procedures. Unfortunately, on Feb. 16th, family and friends confirmed that he died.

“It is with a heavy heart that we come to you to say that heaven gained another precious angel. Javier was given his wings,” the fundraiser said. “We now ask that you continue to pray for Brandy and the family’s comfort and guidance as they navigate this next chapter.”

Family and friends said Dodson was a Northgate High School student and a football team member.

The fundraiser added that a candlelight service would be held at Henry Seldon Field at 5:30 p.m. Sunday Feb. 19th, to celebrate Dodson’s life.
