Family of teenage volleyball player who died after team practice seeks answers with lawsuit

COLLEGE PARK, GA — Lawyers for the family of the 15-year-old volleyball player who collapsed and died while waiting on an ambulance held a press conference on Thursday.

On December 5, 15-year-old Amanda Sylvester was practicing with her team at the Tracey Wyatt REC center in College Park when she collapsed. Grady EMS failed to arrive after multiple calls and, after a reported long wait for an ambulance, the teen’s mother was forced to drive her daughter in the car to the hospital.

There, the teen suffered cardiac arrest and passed away.

Sylvester’s death has raised concerns about delays in emergency response.

A Celebration of life was held at Decatur’s Rainbow Park Baptist Church on Wednesday night.

Her obituary says the excellent teen athlete was also an accomplished and active student as well as an “instant joy to her parents” and both “the baby and the boss to three older siblings”.
