The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office issued a formal statement responding to a scathing report from the Justice Department about conditions at the Fulton County jail.

The response says the federal report underscores “deep challenges facing our correctional system.”

The Sheriff’s office says many of the issues highlighted by the feds are worsened by the condition of the current jail. The statement goes on to say agency is already working to address the problems and takes the recommendations very seriously. The county has already voted to renovate the jail rather than build a new facility.
