Fulton County has responded to the District Attorney’s pressure to increase public safety budgets when it votes on a budget this month.
Speaking about the “disgusting” Fulton County Jail, Fani Willis said county commissioners need to “do their job” on budgeting.
A County spokeswoman points out the DA’s office budget’s increased 48% over five years ago. County commissioner Bridget Thorne said they’ve voted to invest $300 million to improve the jail, but the DA needs to account for her spending.
“There is just a lot of money that she can’t tell us how much they cost,” Thorne said, “and until she can, we can adjust her budget accordingly.”
Thorne said the plan to renovate the deteriorating Rice Street jail is a better plan than building an entirely new facility.
