The rest of the country is seeing an increase in flu cases but in Georgia, influenza cases are on the decline.

Dr. Alexander Millman, Chief Medical Officer with the Georgia Department of Public Health, says visits to outpatient facilities for influenza-like illness are starting to decline in Georgia. He says that it’s still early at this stage. “It’s possible we could have another increase in flu activity in Georgia in the coming weeks to months,” says Millman.

Just because we are seeing fewer people with flu does not mean we are out of the woods. Millman says with Thanksgiving there could be more cases. Those cases would start showing up this week or next.

This flu season got off to an unusually early and harsh start in our state. Earlier in the fall, Georgia was hit hard by the flu. Children were especially impacted by influenza and RSV. Pediatric hospitals across the country have been slammed for weeks by soaring numbers of very sick children.
