Georgia Power working to get customers back up and running

Georgia Power warns of scammers using digital ads, phone calls telling people they owe money (WSBTV.com News Staff)

Georgia Power crews are working to restore power to several hundred customers two days after a winter storm hit metro Atlanta.

Georgia Power had as many as 100,000 customers without electricity at one point Friday night, but less than 24 hours later, that number was down to literally a few thousand.

How did they do it?

“We were able to get the numbers down by rerouting remotely,” Georgia Power’s Matthew Kent said.

That means detouring electricity around the downed line until crews can get it fixed.

Kent says the winter storm was not as big as Hurricane Helene, when 1.3 million Georgia Power customers were in the dark.
