Paraprofessional accused of cutting hair of 5-year-old with special needs at Gwinnett school Family members said the child, named Jax, attends Rosebud Elementary School in Loganville.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County family says a teacher cut a 5-year-old boy’s long hair in class earlier this week.

Family members said the child, named Jax, attends Rosebud Elementary School in Loganville.

His aunt, Meek Dee, wrote on Facebook that on Tuesday, a teacher cut Jax’s long broads for no reason. The teacher then put the cut hair into a bag and sent it home with Jax.

“Our family takes great pride in our hair due to it’s sacred qualities, spiritual value, strength, and cultural traditions,” Dee wrote. “I am OUTRAGED!!!”

Dee went on to say that Jax has special needs and she considered the incident as an assault.

Photos Dee shared on Facebook showed the child with braids that are two different lengths, and the cut hair in a plastic bag.

The school’s principal sent a letter to parents, saying that a paraprofessional “has been accused of taking inappropriate action against a student in her class.”

Principal Brittany Riddick said that she contacted the district’s human resources department and school police and both have launched investigations into what happened.

The accused teacher won’t be allowed back at the school, according to Riddick.

Please know that I am concerned about this situation as I care about all of our students,” Riddick wrote. “Thank you for your continued support as we continue to focus on teaching and learning as well as the mental and physical wellbeing of our students and staff.”
