A reverse 911 missing child alert sent by Gwinnett police was labeled by many phone carriers as spam.

The alert went out as a series of voice messages to Gwinnett residents on December 12.

Police say they have corrected the glitch that also sent the alert to Gwinnett residents who were not in the area of the missing child.

The Gwinnett Police suggest that residents add the police department number to their phone contacts so that future messages can be identified. The Gwinnett Police phone number is 770-513-5799.

They also warn that some phone carriers translate alert message audio incorrectly, so residents should listen to the alerts and not solely rely on the message transcription in their phone.
