Police take murder suspect into custody after hours-long SWAT standoff in DeKalb

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police took a DeKalb County murder suspect into custody hours after he barricaded himself in a home, creating a SWAT standoff Thursday.

Our partners at Channel 2 Action News flew over the scene, where there was a heavy police presence and dozens of police cars on River Ridge Court for most of the afternoon.

Police said that after five hours of negotiation, 18-year-old Shuntrez Giles was taken into custody without incident.

Police said Giles was wanted in a double shooting that left another teenager dead in April. Tayshawn Foston, 17, was shot to death on the 3500 block of Panthersville Road on April 28. The other person who was shot has not been identified.

Police have not said what Giles will be charged with or what led up to the shooting.
